Nicolas Fleury, Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Bangladesh, met State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the State Minister appreciated the ICRC's longstanding humanitarian engagement in Bangladesh, highlighting its contributions to the promotion of International Humanitarian Law, disaster response, and capacity-building. He reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to the Geneva Conventions and noted the vital role of the National IHL Committee.

State Minister Kobir also informed the ICRC delegation that the government is considering participation at an appropriate level in the 'High-Level Conference on Humanity in War', scheduled to be held in Jordan in December 2026. He further highlighted Bangladesh's role as Co-chair of the 'IHL and Peace' workstream under the Global IHL Initiative.

Turning to the Rohingya crisis, the State Minister praised the ICRC's assistance to displaced Rohingyas and host communities in Cox's Bazar. He urged the organization to strengthen its advocacy efforts for the early repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.

In response, the ICRC Head expressed appreciation for Bangladesh's continued cooperation and reaffirmed the organization's readiness to support humanitarian efforts and capacity-building initiatives in the country. Both sides pledged to further consolidate their longstanding partnership.
