Dhaka, 29 September 2026 – The administration of Chittagong University announced yesterday that it has identified two individuals suspected of sexually assaulting a female student on campus on Sunday night.
Assistant Proctor Shahidul Islam told reporters that the university verified the suspects' images with the victim and a friend, confirming their involvement. "We have identified two of them. We verified their images with the victim and her friend," he said.
Ruhul Amin, officer‑in‑charge of Hathazari Police Station, confirmed the university’s cooperation but declined to disclose the names of the accused, citing the ongoing investigation.
CU Chhatra League President Rejaul Haque Rubel claimed he had identified five people linked to the crime, naming one as Azim Hossain, a follower of a BCL sub‑group. Rubel said, "One of the five is Azim Hossain... I got five names from him."
When asked about Rubel’s statements, Assistant Proctor Islam emphasized that Rubel is not part of the probe team and cannot make such claims.
A friend of the victim who reviewed CCTV footage later confirmed Azim Hossain’s presence in the video, adding another layer of evidence to the investigation.
University officials said they remain fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement to bring all perpetrators to justice and to ensure campus safety for students.
