Dhaka, 16 September 2026 – Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. The ambassador congratulated the minister on his recent appointment and the two officials opened discussions on a range of bilateral issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the State Minister highlighted Bangladesh’s willingness to assist Bhutan in the development of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). He offered to provide professionals, as well as skilled and semi‑skilled human resources, to support the project’s implementation.
Recalling the vision of the late President Ziaur Rahman, the minister also urged Bhutan to back the revitalisation of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). He argued that a reinvigorated SAARC would deliver collective benefits for the region’s peoples and enhance cooperation across economic, cultural and security domains.
Ambassador Dorjee expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception extended to His Majesty the King of Bhutan during his brief stopover at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 26 August 2026. He thanked the Bangladeshi government, particularly the Foreign Ministry, for its assistance in ensuring the king’s visit proceeded smoothly.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and explored further avenues for collaboration, including trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. The discussion underscored the importance of high‑level engagement in fostering enduring partnerships between the two neighbours.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain regular dialogue and to coordinate forthcoming initiatives, signalling a continued trajectory of friendly relations and regional cooperation.
