A Bangladeshi youth was reportedly injured in firing by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah on Saturday.

The injured individual has been identified as 30-year-old Ujjal Hossain, son of Harun-or-Rashid from Mailbaria Paschimpara village under Nepa Union in Maheshpur upazila.

According to local residents and border sources, Ujjal was allegedly attempting to cross into India illegally around noon when patrolling BSF personnel from the Pakhuria camp under Hanskhali police station in India's Nadia district opened fire.

He sustained a bullet injury, reportedly from a rubber bullet, and was swiftly rescued by relatives and associates who removed him from the border area for secret treatment.

BGB-58 Battalion (Maheshpur) Deputy Commander Munshi Imdadur Rahman stated that a special BGB patrol team was deployed to Ujjal's residence to investigate the matter, though family members denied that any firing incident had occurred.

Authorities confirmed that Border Guard Bangladesh surveillance and inquiries are ongoing to establish the facts surrounding the border incident and verify if anyone sustained injuries.
