Dhaka, 16 September 2026 – A 25‑year‑old Bangladeshi man, identified as Saurav Islam, died after suffering a severe head injury while hurrying down stairs during a missile alert in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, early Tuesday.
Saurav, a native of Musapur village in Raipura upazila, Narsingdi district, was living in Jeddah and working as a tea boy at a local bank for roughly five years. He was the only son of Amir Islam and Renu Begum, who reside in Bangladesh.
According to family members, a missile warning broadcast on his mobile phone caused panic. In his rush to descend the stairs, a rope became tangled around his foot, leading to a fall that resulted in a profuse head wound.
Co‑workers discovered Saurav lying in a pool of blood the following morning and alerted local police, who recovered his body. Legal proceedings are now underway, the relatives said.
The family was informed of the tragedy in the afternoon when a colleague called from Saudi Arabia. His mother, Renu Begum, has reportedly been fainting since learning of his death.
Saurav’s parents have appealed to the Bangladeshi government to expedite the return of his body so they can perform burial rites themselves.
Raipura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Masud Rana acknowledged the incident, stating, “If they contact us, necessary assistance will be provided,” indicating that local authorities are prepared to support the family’s request.
