State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Mr. Humaiun Kobir, met with H.E. Mr. Lee Doo-hee, Vice Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Korea, in Seoul on 2 October 2026. The two officials held talks focused on expanding political, economic, and defence cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, the ministers outlined plans to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation. Key areas of discussion included joint training programmes, capacity‑building initiatives, United Nations peacekeeping support, and cooperation in the defence industry.

Kobir expressed gratitude for Korea’s ongoing assistance in training Bangladesh’s armed forces, police, and civil‑defence personnel. He requested broader opportunities for specialised training to enhance Bangladesh’s security capabilities.

The Bangladeshi minister also briefed the Korean delegation on a forthcoming defence industrial zone in Bangladesh, inviting Korean investors and technology partners to participate in its development.

Lee Doo‑hee’s side signalled readiness to explore deeper collaboration in the agreed‑upon sectors, reaffirming the long‑standing partnership between Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea.

The talks come amid a series of high‑level engagements aimed at diversifying Bangladesh’s defence partnerships and modernising its security infrastructure, complementing existing ties with other regional powers.

Both parties concluded that the meeting reaffirmed their shared commitment to a robust, mutually beneficial defence relationship moving forward.
