Bangladesh has announced its intention to supply professional, skilled and semi‑skilled workers for the development of Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a project highlighted during recent diplomatic talks.
The proposal was raised in a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday between Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Dasho Karma Hamu Dorji and Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiiun Kobir.
State Minister Kobir said Bangladesh is keen to contribute human resources to GMC, emphasizing that the workforce would include both highly qualified professionals and semi‑skilled labourers to meet the city’s construction and operational needs.
During the same discussion, Kobir recalled the vision of former President Ziaur Rahman and asked Bhutan to support the revival of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), describing the regional bloc as essential for collective development.
The Bhutanese ambassador thanked the Bangladeshi officials for the warm reception he received during his brief transit through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on 26 August, and expressed gratitude for Bangladesh’s ongoing diplomatic support.
Both sides agreed to continue dialogue on bilateral cooperation and regional integration, signalling a strengthening of ties between the two neighbours.
