Dhaka, 17 September 2026 – Bangladesh and France today affirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, defence, aviation, education, renewable energy, technology and human capital development.
The commitment was announced after French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean‑Marc Sere‑Charlet paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning.
During the meeting, the French envoy congratulated Kobir on his recent appointment and the two officials exchanged views on ways to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and partnership between the two countries.
Kobir emphasized Bangladesh’s interest in attracting French investment, pointing to promising opportunities in infrastructure projects, renewable‑energy initiatives, space technology, advanced manufacturing and the pharmaceutical sector.
He also underscored Bangladesh’s zero‑tolerance stance on irregular migration and human trafficking, reaffirming Dhaka’s readiness to cooperate with Paris to combat these challenges and to promote regular, legal labour mobility.
Ambassador Sere‑Charlet reiterated France’s readiness to enhance cooperation across all identified areas and praised the Bangladeshi government’s progress on democratic reforms and institutional strengthening.
The two sides also discussed priorities for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, highlighting the need for coordinated action on climate change and multilateral cooperation.
Kobir expressed gratitude for France’s continued humanitarian assistance to the 1.3 million Rohingya refugees sheltered in Bangladesh and affirmed both countries’ commitment to a safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation process.
Both parties concluded the talks with confidence that sustained engagement will give further momentum to Bangladesh‑France relations.
