Dhaka, 14 October 2026 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh hosted the third round of foreign office consultations with Kenya in the capital city. The talks were led by Dr. Nazrul Islam, Secretary (Bilateral) of Bangladesh, and Ambassador Josphat Maikara, Director General of Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

Both delegations reviewed the progress made since their second round in Nairobi in July 2024 and examined a wide spectrum of issues, including trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, health, agriculture, information‑technology, defence, climate change, the blue economy, culture, sports and people‑to‑people contacts.

The parties agreed to accelerate pending agreements and memoranda of understanding, notably the avoidance of double taxation, promotion and protection of investment, cooperation in the blue economy and contract farming. They also pledged to deepen collaboration within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the Indian Ocean Rim Association.

Bangladesh highlighted its competitive sectors – pharmaceuticals, ready‑made garments, light engineering products, jute and agricultural goods – while Kenya expressed interest in importing affordable medicines and high‑quality coffee, beans, cotton and processed meat. Kenya also announced plans to establish a resident mission in Dhaka in the near future.

Both sides underscored the importance of sustained high‑level visits to cement the partnership. The fourth round of consultations is slated for Nairobi in October 2028, aiming to build on the momentum generated in Dhaka.

The outcome reinforces Bangladesh’s strategy to expand its diplomatic and economic outreach in Africa, while offering Kenya a reliable partner for market diversification and investment opportunities.

Why it matters

The agreement accelerates trade and investment ties, boosting Bangladesh's export sectors and Kenya's access to affordable medicines.
