What happened

Bangladesh and Japan convened their seventh Foreign Office Consultations in Dhaka, led by senior foreign ministry officials.

The agenda covered high-level exchanges, trade and investment, energy security, green energy and the proposed Economic Partnership Agreement.

Why it matters

The two sides also reviewed the BIG-B Initiative, defence cooperation and Japan's role in Bangladesh's long-term development.

Bangladesh raised the humanitarian burden of hosting Rohingya refugees and invited Japan's prime minister to visit Dhaka.
